Alexander, C. H. O'D.   –   Tylor, T. H. (Theodore Henry)

C13 British Championship 1938 (8) 1938.08.16

"Meanwhile Alexander suffered his first defeat, at the hands of T. H. Tylor. He played the Chatard attack 6. P-KR4 against Tylor's French Defence. This is supposed to have been refuted by the Russian analysts: but the Russian analysts are quite mistaken, as Alexander immediately demonstrated. He castled on the queen's side and obtained a positional advantage which should have been decisive; but in a very complicated position he lost his way, allowing a bishop to be trapped and losing two pieces for a rook. He could still have made a fight, but finished himself off by making a blunder and losing yet another piece. Alexander is, unfortunately, suffering from a heavy cold." (The Times, August 17, 1938.)
