Withdrawals |
The Irish government issued a lockdown order for Kildare, Laois, and Offaly on Friday, August 7. As a result, Peter Cafolla, Killian Delaney, and Jonathan O'Connor were unable to play the last two rounds. |
Débuts and final appearances |
Casey, Adam Collins, Goss, Jackson, Peoples, Lara and Leon Putar, and Venkatesan made their Irish championship débuts. Brady, Byrne, Sam Collins, Delaney, Jackson, McHugh, Mirza, Peoples, and Wallace have not played in any subsequently chanmpionship. |
Olympiad place |
The winner was guaranteed an automatic Olympiad place for the next available Olympiad. |
Eligibility |
Under a motion passed at the 2018 AGM, some players could have the rating requirement ignored provided they were nominated by: a. The ICU Executive (maximum 2 players); or b. The tournament organisers (maximum 1 player). In addition, the Irish Women’s Champion, Irish 50+ and 65+ Champions, and all previous IRL winners of this event were automatically eligible to play in the Irish Championship irrespective of rating. (Cf. Appendix 1 of "Irish Championship: Terms and Conditions".) (This was a significant narrowing of eligibility compared to the 2017 championship.)
For this event, Leon Putar, Adam Collins, and Lara Putar were accepted as wildcard entries.
Alex Goss played as a filler to ensure no player had an unwanted bye. |
Tie-break |
The tie-break method (see Terms and Conditions) was adopted for the 2018 championship, based on ICU Executive Committee decision, and subsequently ratified at the 2018 AGM for all Irish championships. |
Ratings |
- FIDE ratings are from the August 2020 list.
