1. c4 e6 2. g3 f5 3. Bg2 Nf6 4. Nc3 c6 5. Nf3 d5 6. cxd5 exd5 7. d4 So far pretty standard, nothing too crazy. I wasn't expecting to be playing against a stonewall but I felt quite comfortable with my position 7... Bd6 8. O-O O-O 9. Qc2 Qe8 10. b3 I played this with the idea of potentially going a4 and Ba3 to try trade off the bishops 10... Ne4 Here I realised that b3 was probably not the best. I realised that even if I managed to trade off the bishops, I would end up with a misplaced rook on a3 which black could easily attack and gain tempo with Qe7. 11. e3 This blocks my bishop a bit but I was planning on developing it the other way anyways I felt this was a bit too aggressive too soon for black, I was confident enough that I didn't have to worry too much about his attack. 13. Ne2 Heading for f4 and planning for Ne5 13... g5 Somehow I was still not overly worried about this attack, I felt I had enough pieces to defend and that Ne5 would cause issues for black I was happy when black took here, I am threatening f3 now, the knight on e4 looks like it has nowhere to go once I am covering f6 with the e5 pawn. 15. dxe5 Be7 16. f3 Nc5 17. Ba3 b6 18. b4 Nd7 19. Qxc6 After I got this pawn on c6 it was impossible to defend the rest of the pawns and his position fell apart 19... Rb8 20. Qxd5+ Kh8 21. Bb2 Qe8 22. e6+ Here I felt like there had to be a checkmate soon 22... Nf6 23. Qxf5 h6 24. f4 Kg8 25. fxg5 hxg5 26. Qxg5+ Kh7 27. Be4+ Kh8 28. Rf4 1-0 Annotator(s): Eibhia Ní Mhuireagáin.
