Débuts
  • Arun, Barnes, Braine, Gallagher, Geaney-O'Brien, Góra, Govindaraju, Hushpit, Lorigan, Murray, O'Neill, O'Reilly, O'Rourke, Paibir, Parouare, Gavin Sheahan, Sidney, Stokes, and Woods made their Irish championship débuts.
  • This list of 19 débutants did not set a record: 20 players made their débuts at the 1966 championship.
Eligibility Under rules approved at the 2018 AGM, some players could have the rating requirement ignored provided they were nominated by: a. The ICU Executive (maximum 2 players); or b. The tournament organisers (maximum 1 player). In addition, the Irish Women’s Champion, Irish 50+ and 65+ Champions, and all previous IRL winners of this event were automatically eligible to play in the Irish Championship irrespective of rating.

For this event, all players except Stokes and Gallagher met the rating requirement. Stokes was the Chief Arbiter's nominee prior to the event, and Gallagher was added to even up the numbers after a late withdrawal prior to the event's start. Both had peak ratings close to qualifying (peak ICU 1887 in 2024 in each case).
Tie-break The tie-break method (see Terms and Conditions) was adopted for the 2018 championship, based on ICU Executive Committee decision, and subsequently ratified at the 2018 AGM for all Irish championships.
Grading prizes Grading prizes were awarded based on how much a player's rating performance exceeded his or her rating (using FIDE ratings throughout). Atharva Paibir (175 points greater) won the first prize, and Yannick Woods (174 points greater) won the second (source: YouTube video of closing ceremony).
Discrepancies The Livechesscloud, Lichess, and TWIC game files differ from each other. This version (v1.2) mostly adopts the Lichess version, up to the last move with a time stamp, but there were several games where one extra ply, that seemed plausible, was included.
Ratings
  • FIDE ratings are from the August 2024 list.
  • ICU ratings are from the August 2024 list.
